This is my third commission for collector Bill Cox. This piece pits the Squad against the Rhedosaurus from “The Beast From 20000 Fathoms”! Be sure to expand the image to see it in all its glory!
The dynamic duo of Wallace and Downer strikes again!
This is another SUICIDE SQUAD cover done for collector, Bill Cox. It features the Squad about to have a showdown with Gorosaurus. The Squad is flying via Bell Rocket Belts, while Gorosaurus is wrecking the Arc De Triomphe in Paris. Paris has sure taken a beating in these last two commissions! This piece was drawn on 11″X17″ bristol, and inked with a Raphael Kolinsky brush. The title and other lettering is also done by hand.
Steve Downer, the colorist on “LORNA: RELIC WRANGLER,” delivers a fantastic job on my Suicide Squad commission. I thought you all would enjoy checking it out first-hand. Great job, Steve!
The Suicide Squad, featuring Rick Flag, Jr.; his girlfriend Karin Grace; Dr. Hugh Evans; and Jess Bright, first appeared in “The Brave and the Bold” in the 1959. The Squad, also known as “Task Force X,” often found themselves pitted against giant aliens, monsters, and creatures. When Bill Cox commissioned me to create a Suicide Squad cover illustration, he requested that the team be fighting a giant snake in Paris. I had a blast drawing the dramatic bird’s eye view of the Eiffel Tower and showing the team using the infamous Hiller Flying Platforms from the 1950s. I’ve always been a fan of drawing giant monsters, so of course I loved drawing the snake coiled around the Tower. This is one of my favorite commissions to date. And now, thanks to Bill, I’ve become a fan of the original Suicide Squad myself!
