Some of you may have already seen the Groovy Agent’s post at Diversions of the Groovy Kind about my wife Carolyn, so she and I decided we should also make an official announcement here.
To use Carolyn’s words, she has “a little bit of breast cancer.” It was caught very early due to an annual mammogram. Her surgeon told her it would have been three to five years before the tumor got large enough to be felt in a self-exam, by which point the cancer could have spread to other parts of her body. So go mammograms!
She is in very good spirits, thanks to a ton of support she’s received from all quarters–friends, family, co-workers, and fans. She will have a lumpectomy in early August, followed by a month of radiation in September. If all goes well, she should be cancer-free and feeling great in time for Halloween. And, in true comic-book style, she’s sincerely hoping the radiation will interact with all the prayers flying around her and turn her into a super-heroine.
Thank you all for your support during this time. You are the best!
