 Suicide Squad Commission 2 Colors by Steve Downer
Here’s the finished colors on “Zatanna and a Couple of Boobs!” I think the colors turned out well, and I’d especially like to thank Steve Downer for his advice on how to approach the color on the background elements. This piece was a lot of fun, so I hope you enjoy the full color humor.  Zatanna and a Couple of Boobs Final Colors Here’s a commission I did for the awesome Hallopino! This illustration features the mystic Zatanna transforming the Blue Beetle, Booster Gold and Skeets into female versions of themselves! LOL. I thought this was a very fun idea for a commission, and I enjoyed drawing it. Though I’ve recently drawn a Zatanna commission or two, it’s been a few years since I drew Zee in the animated style. The last time I did, it was for an illustration in a DCU kids book about 10 years ago. I love drawing Zatanna in any style! So much fun, that character! My favorite bit on this was Skeets with large boob shapes. You just know that’ll mess with the mechanized aerodynamics… And if you’re interested in art techniques, I created the background texture using ink and a combination of sponge stamping and stippling.  Zatanna, Blue Beetle, Booster Gold, and Skeets This piece was done for my good friend, Steve Funnell (http://brokenhill.deviantart.com/), who might be the greatest Thing fan of all time! Steve and I are both fans of the classic Kirby-era FANTASTIC FOUR, so it seemed only fitting that I make this drawing a salute to Jack Kirby, Joe Sinnott, Stan Lee and the classic era of Marvel! Ben is rendered in brush inks, while the floating heads are rendered in “B” graphite pencil for contrast. Benjamin Grimm is a character who carries the weight of the world on his shoulders, so I wanted to symbolize this in the image layout. That’s why all the heads on this image float above him and not below in the composition. This piece was an absolute pleasure to draw! I love drawing the Thing, the FF, the Hulk, Galactus, and Doctor Doom, so this was just a blast! I even got to draw Wyatt Wingfoot! Wyatt Wingfoot!!! There’s a first time for everything! Hold on to your hats, Yancy lads–“IT’S CLOBBERIN’ TIME!!” What a revolting development…
 Ben Grimm: Clobberin' Time FATHER’S DAY is the latest horror flick from TROMA STUDIOS (the people who brought us TOXIC AVENGER). When the director of the film commissioned me to draw an image featuring the lead characters from the movie, I was happy to oblige. He was kind enough to help me with reference materials, and I set out to do a nice collage image. I particularly liked drawing the girl. That’s me in a nutshell. An artist who enjoys drawing cute babes and horrible monsters. It’s no wonder that my favorite movie is the original 1933 KING KONG!
 Father's Day commission This is another SUICIDE SQUAD cover done for collector, Bill Cox. It features the Squad about to have a showdown with Gorosaurus. The Squad is flying via Bell Rocket Belts, while Gorosaurus is wrecking the Arc De Triomphe in Paris. Paris has sure taken a beating in these last two commissions! This piece was drawn on 11″X17″ bristol, and inked with a Raphael Kolinsky brush. The title and other lettering is also done by hand.

 Suicide Squad in Color Recently a gentleman named Wes contacted me about doing a commission for his wife, Nessie, who had just received a promotion at work. Nessie’s birthday was fast approaching, and Wes wanted to surprise her with something special. Both were fans of the CW television series, SMALLVILLE, so I was asked to draw a cast member from the show–either Clark, Lois or Chloe– holding up a copy of the Daily Planet with a congratulatory headline. I chose to draw Chloe Sullivan, who is actually my favorite character on the show. I’m pleased to find out that Nessie liked the drawing, and that this birthday present was a smashing success!
